Oh so busy...

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. Life is going as fast as the Olympians on the luge. Our weekends are just as busy as the week days it seems. There is usually a few dance classes to get the girls to, as well as at least 2 soccer games. It was so busy this last week I didn't even get to the grocery store. In the few minutes I could find, (while waiting for the washer to finish) I managed to piece this rag quilt together. It will be for one of the dance teachers who is expecting her first. I have to make a girl version since we don't know what she is having.

I am still working on my niece's string quilt. It is all pieced and sandwiched, just need a few hours behind the machine to quilt it. Not sure if that will happen this week as I am working three days and most nights this week I will be at soccer practices/games.
Have a great week everyone and hope you get some sewing time in.

GO CANADA GO!!!

We are getting ready to celebrate the opening of the Winter Olympics that are being hosted in Vancouver, Bristish Columbia, Canada. We're having a bit of party to get in the Olympic spirit and cheer on our athletes and our neighbouring province that is hosting. Everyone coming is bringing an appetizer from a participating country. Should be a fun evening!!!

Vintage Thingie Thursday

I haven't participated in Vintage Thingy Thursday hosted by Suzanne at Colorado Lady in ages. Just been busy. As I sat and looked other blogs and their items. I wondered what in the world I could post about today? As I look to the right of my laptop there hangs this little vintage treasure practically in my face. This Wecolme Door Harp was my paternal Grandmother's. She always had it on the back of her door as long as I could remember. For 10 years of my childhood she lived in the house attached to ours, so I

saw her quite often growing up.
It rings so sweetly when jiggled. (sorry the photos are blurry, like me, the batteries in my camera were running out!) Why the black line? not sure. I can see faintly it says "Welcome Door Harp Co". I don't have it on any of my doors, with three kids coming and going I don't think it would survive.
Happy VTT!

"Start the Car" & Lily

I have been working on a little project for my great friend Ria. It was her birthday back in January, but she was basking in the sun and warmth of Phoenix so I haven't been able to give her this wall hanging. She has just caught the quilting bug, ....from me... and caught it bad too. She likes hand applique, but I am slowly converting her to do more on the machine, (of which she got a new one at Christmas, so no excuses now). Anyway, occassionally we go out shopping together, but I am always in a hurry (have to get home to get a kids somewhere), so we always joke about the IKEA commercial when the lady comes running out of the store with a ton of bags in her hand and yells "Start the car, start the car!" to her husband. So that is what I have called this wall hanging. "Start the Car"! and yep tomorrow we are off shopping and checking out a new to us LQS.

My dog Lily is always 'helping' with my quilting. It never fails whenever I have a quilt on the floor to pin, size or look over the design, she has to been right there with me and sit on the quilt. Well tonight was no exception. Even though this wall hanging is only about 16" square, she still managed to get in my way while I was taking a picture then insisted on sitting pretty for a picture. That is why we call her Silly Lily!

A winner and an update

Finally a moment to pick a winner from my 100th blogiversary.

There were only 11 entrants

Nothing fancy when drawing the winner's name just the good ol' names in a basket, stirred up .......

Picked.....

And the winner is.......

Lisa Marie, a fellow Albertan, her blog is scrapsofthisandthat Congrats. I must say I have used her tip already... Number wooden clothes pin and clip to the rows before sewing them together.. They really work. Thanks I will get your pouches off in the mail, I hope this weekend.

Update:

I sent out my mini fall quilt to my partner in Alabama. She is living in her RV this year so i didn't make my mini quilt as a wall hanging, but rather as a table topper. Denise blogged about her quilt here.

I received this one from Carol. I love the fabric and her detail quilting of the oak leaves. Thanks so much.

Currently I am working on a string quilt for my niece as well as a little wall hanging for a friend's birthday. Haven't had as much time lately for sewing, too many soccer games, working days and housework.

What are you up to?
