To market to market to buy a ....fat Quarter

Having an awesome time at the International Quilt Market. Tuesday is a transition day between Market (for manufacturers, suppliers, wholesalers and distributors to show case new stuff) and Festival (open to the public). So I am headed on a bus tour to shops and the Texas Quilt Museum.

Here is some Quilty eye candy:

There is so many to look at in the viewing gallery it gets a little overwhelming but great inspiration.

You can see more quilt market fun if you follow me on Instagram. @lalaslovelys

9 ties + 4 dress shirts + 5 golf shirts =

 = 2 quilt tops

I will write more about the process of making these in another post.

I have two identical tops completed as well as their backs.

I am calling these 'Memorial Quilts'.
They will be given to the children of a father who passed away suddenly.
I used his ties and dress shirts to create the tops.
The golf shirts are incorporated into the backs.   (pictures coming)

Be thankful for those that surround you now!

Published...kinda

Have you ever picked up a quilting magazine (or any other for that matter) and seen a picture or article in there that you are responsible for?

Your heart does a little flutter and a smile comes across your face and you want to tell the world, "that's mine".

Well that is how I felt when opening up the Sept/Oct issue of Quilty Magazine from Fons & Porter.

I quickly scanned the pages looking for something familiar and bam there it was on page 83.

This picture!

This is the quilt that I made for my niece using all her soccer and hockey jerseys. You can read more about it here. (BTW she graduated with Honours in June and is now pursuing her Masters)  I was really proud of this quilt.

There was just one thing missing: credit with my name for this photo & quilt! (insert sad face).    I have contacted the writer and the editor and apologizes have been made. Apparently there was an error in the information received and a correction will be inserted in the Jan/Feb issue.

So as the title of my post says

Published...kinda.

A summer finish

I was so bad not blogging over the summer I forgot to show you this finish.

This quilt was started back in 2009.

I listed it on my UFO confessions list in January.

Many of the fabrics in the squares are from the 90's;  from crafting days, early quilting days and sewing clothes for the kids days.  I can still remember what they are from.  Ask me in another 20 years!!

I machine quilted it on my domestic machine.  Its queen size! I had chosen a white backing fabric originally, but changed it just before quilting.  I needed something with more pattern to camouflage the quilting.

How is your UFO list shrinking or expanding?

Help needed

I am hoping to get some advice using this product

Have you used it before?

Any tips?

Any problems?

Any advice?

Since it is rather expensive ($25 for 6 sheets) I don't want to mess up any sheets.

thanks

Run for the Cure

Also during my blogging absence this summer I have taken the time to start tracking what i was eating (using My Fitness Pal app) and running.  Happy to say I have lost 5 lbs.

I can tell you that it took a lot of determination to get me going. I have never been athletic. I hated gym class in elementary. Tried to get out of class in Junior High.  Didn't even take PE class in high school.  In college I took tennis because the coach was easy on me.

I started walking again in May/June increasing my distances to 6-7km.

I then downloaded and used the training program '30min run in 6 weeks' (within the Runtastic app).   I started slowly with 1 min runs and 2 min walks and built up from there.  I even managed to keep up with my training while on vacation too.  The best run was joining my sister for a short trail run.

Early September I decided to see if I could work myself up to 5km.  I was successful a few times!

From there I decided to sign up for the CIBC Run for the Cure 5km run.

Today was the day!

I joined over 7000 participants in Calgary.

What an amazing event.  There were bands playing along the route.  People decorated there houses in pink.  'Bra'  flags hanging from trees, fences and telephone poles. I so wanted to stop and take pictures but didn't want to stop running either.  The support was unbelievable.

I hope that the donations raised by everyone today can help to continue to fight for a cure.

P.S. don't forget to check your breasts regularly!
