Lily turned 1 on Monday and today she became hunter extraordinaire! She caught a little squirrel in the backyard. However getting rid of that in the garbage was the grossest and hardest thing I have ever done. I hope I can sleep tonight without nightmares.

Genevieve's
I told you last week that my post for Vintage Thingie Thursday would combine two of my favourite things, antiques and quilts. Well I guess you could say this lady started my love of quilting before I was even born. My great grandmother Genevieve was a wonderful, beautiful seamstress, quilter, crocheter, tatter etc. I never met her as she passed before I was born, but I truly feel her sewing genes were passed through my dad on to me! Either that or I was born in the wrong generation!!! I am also very fortunate to have had passed down to me some of her quilting.
Recently on a trip to the family farm in Ohioby me and a trip to Missouri by my dad, I also receied some of her tools she used for crocheting and tatting. There were even some unfinished projects with thread/yarn still attached. Kind of eerie but great to know she even had some UFO's!!! I hope to one day to get these all framed in dedication to her.

As best that I can tell all her quilts were hand pieced and quilted. If anyone knows the official name of this star quilt I would appreciate knowing.

tThis purple, green and yellow appliqued quilt is my favourite. I love tulips and she must have too! It is too bad there are a few stains on this one, but it was well used over the years.

Stay tuned for more of her work in further post. that is all I could get photographed outside before the rain stared.! Genevieve's family came from Europe (but haven't been able to pin point either Netherlands or France). The family homesteaded near Marysville, KS. Later she and her husband moved to Missouri and then to Ohio to be with their only son, my grandfather.

Update Oct 11/09: The star quilt is called Seven Stars and the floral one is Noon Day Lily with a ribbon border both patterns publised by Ruby Short McKim from Kansas. She often published them in the Kansas City Star newspaper

Pink glass
In between soccer games and dance classes this evening I quickly took some photos of my grandmother's pink glass set for Vintage Thingie Thursday. I always admired this pink glass dessert set in my grandmother's house for as long I can remember. I was fortunate enough to receive it after she passed in 1997. There are no marks on the glass. I consider it a dessert set because there are mostly sundae/parfait glasses and bowls to the set, one covered dish and 8 plates. I have used it once and awhile over the years, but the glass is so thin and delicate I have to be extra careful washing them. I took the pictures so quickly I didn't have time to wash them, hope you can't see too much dust!!! Next week I hope to combine two of my favourite hobbies, antiques and quilting....hint they were made by someone in my family!
Have a great week.
New machine
I was in my favourite LQS shop today while I was out running errands. I had looked briefly at a new machine a few weeks back and wanted to actually touch and feel this machine. It is an Husqvarna/Viking Sapphire 870. I currently have a Janome which is about 12 years old and still work sgreat, but I wouldn't mind a few more automatic functions and the decorative stitches and larger work area this H/V offers.
Any one else have this machine? Any comments or advice would be helpful.
Thanks

finally a moment!
By the way my daughter did awesome at her competition. I was so proud of her.
The rest of the weekend was spent at work getting my Standard First Aid certificate. Whew glad that is finished too
It is finally starting to look like spring around here. The tulips are blooming yet, but I did see a couple of daffodils and crocus out, finally.
This week is about the same. I am working a couple of days, (substitute preschool teacher). Kids have soccer games, practice, dance classes, etc etc. I never stop.
Yesterday I did manage to get some maching quilting done on my "Lemonade" quilt. I just need another hour and I will have the top done. we are off to another dance competition this weekend, but the whole family will go with us this time and celebrate Mother's Day together.
