Feeling a little dark…..

It all started with this over flowing container of dark strings. If you can believe they were all squished in to this box/container.  Which was starting to drive me crazy…way to messy…..
Soooo…..I turned them into theseWP_000392
Many 10” string blocks
Ok so maybe there are a few medium coloured strings too.
Not only was I using up all the dark strings, but using up all those half filled bobbins too!
Then it was time to audition for layouts:
In the end I went with a more traditional X layout with a black border and a piano key outside border.

WP_000391 Which left me with this….a nearly empty dark string bin.
I have the backing fabric for this, now I just need to get started on the quilting. I am not sure how to quilt this just yet.  Any suggestions?

Happy Stitching!

  1. love the way you put it together. scrap quilts will always be my favorite.

  2. holy moly Lee you are quilting up a storm! This one is lovely! And all from scrap suggestions for quilting,

  3. Oh Lee this is pretty!! I have four drawers FULL of strings, it seems the more I try to use, the more I have....I love the colors on this one. Very nice.

  4. I've been dealing with much the same. Too many scraps but haven't done the string thing. The outcome of your strings is amazing. I like it. As far as quilting, I see something could be going on inside those diamonds.

  5. Traditional x lay out is my fav, your quilt is wonderful. I would use an all-over panto type quilt pattern. Mary has some great panto patterns she uses and they always look great on strings.
(I hopped here from comments at MaryQuilts blog). :)

  6. Love the layout, my fave layout for sure! I agree with an allover pattern for the quilting. Maybe just a stipple/meander?

  7. Turned out fantastic!! Thanks for sharing. ooxx`jodi

  8. It's very striking, Lee -- I really like the traditional layout you chose to go with! :)

  9. Wow! LOVE IT! Did you make your scrap bin? I'm in the process of trying to organize my small scraps. I have a bunch of formula tins that I'm trying to brainstorm with.

  10. What a fantastic way to use up scraps! I love your string quilt! I've lots of scraps...I want to make one too!
    Have a lovely weekend.

  11. I love the result!!! I´m collecting 2.5"(so far around 800) squares for a scrappy quilt so all I have left are little snipples. With those I plan to make something with the mosaic-pattern
